Development Assistant
To meet the needs of its growing number of members and programs, St. Dominic’s is planning a capital campaign to complete the restoration of its historic church building, create an educational and community center for parishioners, students, and the greater San Francisco community, and secure an endowment to preserve its facilities for the future. We are seeking a dynamic Development Assistant to support the administrative needs of the Development Director and the Campaign Committee in this concentrated and sustained collaborative effort.
The Development Assistant will report directly to the Development Director. Responsibilities range from basic administrative support to more advanced donor interactions and project management. This is an excellent opportunity for a smart, mature individual with strong administrative skills who wants to apply their professional abilities to a vital role in making St. Dominic’s “the model urban parish for the 21st century.”
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide administrative and advanced support to the Development Director.
- Organize and maintain donor files and records (individuals and foundations).
- Assist with direct mail initiatives and other donor communications, including acknowledgement letters and pledge payment follow-up.
- Assist with marketing and communications projects. Design and produce in-house marketing materials. Coordinate with designers and printers to create, refresh, and reproduce professionally printed materials.
- Assist with planning and coordination of ongoing donor cultivation events, including managing invitations, tracking responses, working with caterers, and overseeing event details.
- Provide capital campaign support, including assistance with prospect research and tracking, proposal preparation, volunteer assignments, gift recording and acknowledgment procedures, and campaign promotional materials. For monthly Campaign Committee meetings, send reminder notices, prepare and distribute agenda and other materials, take minutes, and track action items.
- Assist with special appeals and collections, and undertake special projects and other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in a professional office setting. Experience in non-profit organizations and development function not necessary but preferable.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills. Positive, confident, courteous, and professional demeanor at all times. Ability to motivate and interact with pastor, staff colleagues (priests, religious, and laity), donors, parish leadership, volunteers, and neighborhood representatives to secure their support to advance the mission of St. Dominic’s.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, aesthetic eye in reviewing marketing and communications collateral, and meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Independent worker who can prioritize, quickly manage multiple tasks and responsibilities, and meet critical deadlines. High level of initiative, self-direction, and dedication. Can do attitude.
- Excellent organizational abilities. Demonstrated ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality with donor records and development information.
- Computer literate, Internet savvy, proficient with databases and MS Office. Desktop publishing experience a plus.
- Must be able to attend assigned events (some nights and weekends) and activities as needed.
