FIC February Lecture “Servant of God Augustus Tolton: The Journey from Slave to Priest” by Deacon Chuck McNeil, February 15, 7:00 - 8:30 pm, Parish Hall
Come hear the inspirational story of Fr. Augustus Tolton, the first Roman Catholic priest in the United States publicly known to be African American when he was ordained in 1886.  Deacon Charles McNeil will describe the hardships and triumph of Fr. Tolton’s journey (from slavery in Missouri to Illinois to his study and ordination in Rome and return to Chicago to serve the African American Catholic community) as well as the current steps being taken to seek Fr. Tolton’s canonization.  As always, all are welcome. Light Refreshments will be served.
